Championing Humanitarian Support: Rudy's Remarkable Journey

We are honored to share the incredible story of Rudolf Balazhinec (Rudy), one of the founders and a devoted volunteer of Family of Christ. Rudy's journey is a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment to humanitarian support in Ukraine.

Rudy’s Volunteerism in Ukraine

Rudy and his wife Katty began their mission in 2012, visiting orphanages in and around Uzhhorod, where they spent precious hours with children in need. These visits planted the seeds of what would become Family of Christ, officially registered as a Ukrainian charitable foundation in 2018.

Their work has since expanded to include countless volunteers dedicated to providing essential support to orphans, nursing home residents, at-risk families, and abandoned babies.

Volunteers Making a Difference

Rudy's dedication took on new significance during the war in Ukraine. As he recalls:

"I've lived through two years of war, but I never thought it would be so hard to describe these last two years of my life. One thing I know for sure is, 'If not for God, I definitely would not be alive.'"

The call at 4:30 in the morning, urging evacuation, marked a pivotal moment. Despite the chaos and danger, Rudy felt a divine call to remain steadfast and serve. With his team, he organized aid for refugees, providing food and shelter amidst the turmoil. Rudy’s wife’s support strengthened his resolve, as she told him:

"Don't let the thoughts torment you. We're not going anywhere; we're with you till the end."

Together, they faced immense challenges, from feeding thousands of refugees to ensuring the safety of their premises from potential threats. Rudy’s heart was deeply touched by the stories of those they helped, like Max, an eight-year-old boy from Mariupol who expressed his gratitude despite enduring unimaginable loss. Max said to Rudy: 

"Uncle, thank you. I thought my mom wouldn't make it because my little brother was blown up by a grenade given to him by a Russian soldier."
